Custom Upholstery with Buildlane
There is nothing wrong with buying a sofa from Restoration Hardware, CB2, West Elm, IKEA, or any of the other usual suspects. They make perfectly good sofas. Millions of living rooms agree.
But one of the really nice things about working with an interior designer is that you don’t necessarily have to start with the sofa and design the room around it.
You can design the sofa around the room.
The exact length. The right depth. Arms that make sense for the space. A seat height you actually like. The fabric you want. The cushion fill you want. A sectional that turns the corner exactly where the architecture says it should instead of leaving you with an awkward 17-inch gap you eventually fill with a basket.
Custom furniture can make a surprisingly big difference in how finished, and how specifically yours a room feels.
And there’s another reason I care about it.
We spend an absurd amount of our lives on our upholstered furniture. Reading, working, watching movies, napping, hosting friends, eating things we said we wouldn't eat on the sofa. Our kids spend years climbing, jumping, sleeping and generally marinating on it.
So if natural materials, organic fabrics and knowing what is actually inside your furniture matter to you, custom gives us a lot more control over that, too.
Which brings me to something I’m very happy to bring to Good Company:
We’re partnering with Buildlane to offer custom furniture.
I have a little history here.
Buildlane founder Frank is a longtime friend. We used to make websites and music together, and years later I spent some time working with the Buildlane team, helping with marketing and social media. Dennis Scully was technically my boss for a minute. Life is wild and amazing and I loved my experience helping the team bring their blog and social media to life for awhile.
So yes, I am a biased insider.
But that also means I know the platform, I know Frank and all of his people behind him. I know the quality of the work being produced. I have been to the factory countless times and I believe in the craftsmanship and care of the framers, springers, seamstresses and more. Oh, and the CAD design process with Stephen is painstakingly detailed and so, so fun!
Buildlane is a trade-only custom furniture platform connecting designers with some of the same California manufacturers building pieces for interior design studios across the country.
And now you can use it at Good Company.
So instead of hunting endlessly for a sofa that is almost the right size, maybe the right fabric and hopefully what you had in mind, we can just… make the thing you actually want.
A sofa. A sectional. A headboard. A chair. A banquette. An ottoman. Something slightly strange that fits perfectly into that one spot in your house.
